July 21
We have some exciting news coming in
August. In the meantime, I'll mention that we have recently
taken in large numbers of good stuff including paranormal romance,
literary fiction, world literature, and more. We're also
working on what should begin being a monthly email newsletter that
will include sales annoucements and coupons among other
information. To receieve it send an email to josh@bookcastleonline.com
May 7
Starting on May 16th, we will be changing
our store hours for the Summer. We will be open from 9:30-8 pm
Monday through Friday. Saturdays we will be open from 9:30-6pm
and 1:00-5:00 on Sunday afternoons. We also have updated our
book club page with our Summer book club books and dates.
April 9
Beginning in early May, we will be
expanding our store hours for the Summer. We will be open
until at least 8:00 in the evening this Summer giving you more
opprotunities to stock up on vacation beach reads from James
Patterson and William T. Vollmann.
March 5
We have had a giant influx of books come
in over the last few weeks. Around 3,000 new books (new-used
books, not new-new books) have arrived, in every genre especially
science fiction, paranormal romance, literary fiction and
history. Next week will bring in about one thousand or so
more, so check in for the best selection.

This week we are excited to start selling
Vintage Book Cover T-shirt. The shirts, made by the
Brooklyn based Out of
Print Clothing, look terrific. We currently have
shirts for Catch-22, The Catcher in the Rye, Fahrenheit
451, On the Road, Atlas Shrugged, Naked Lunch and an
awesome looking A Tale of Two Cities shirt. The
shirts are $22.50.
February 14
Starting next weekend, we will have huge
amounts of new books coming in each weekend. We will be
travelling a lot to buy books, so check in regularly for the best
selection, as new items will be coming all the time.
Sunday January
10
We still have some Sherlock Holmes
puppets available. If only someone would make a Jane
Austen/Nietzsche buddy comedy, maybe their puppets would start
selling as well as Sherlock.
Sunday November
22
We have finally gotten around to choosing
our next book club book and discussion date. We will be
reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson on
Thursday January 7 at 5:30 pm. We have new copies available at
substantially lower prices than the retail price (only
$6.00 for mass market/ $10.00 for trade paperback). So pick up
a copy and join us on January 7th.
We have also begun selling vinyl
records. We do not currently have a huge section, but we will
be expanding it over time. This means that we are buying and
trading records, as well as books; however, WE LOOK AT RECORDS
SATURDAYS ONLY. We are also extremely selective with records
(No Ray Coniff!). We are specifically interested in punk,
indie, rock, classic rock, hip hop, some pop, ska, and some other
genres.
Sunday November

Oops, it's been a long time since this site has been
updated. Fall has been busy so far, so this has gotten
neglected a bit. We've got some interesting New Books coming
in this week (always 20% off publisher's prize) including a book of
the last interview with the late Chilean novelist Roberto
Bolano. We will not be getting copies of the new Stephen
King, Grisham or Sarah Palin books as we do not want to get involved
in that crazy
money losing game of chicken that Wal-Mart and Amazon
are playing.
On the used
book front, we recently got in a number of Essential Marvel and
Showcase Presenents DC graphic novels in great shape, including
Metamorpho, Batman, Spider-Man, Man-Thing, and a series called
Werewolf by Night. As of this writing, we also still have one
used copy of New Moon!
Sunday October
18
We've been shuffling a number of sections around to
try to make more room on the shelves for our bigger sections, so if
you have trouble finding something, don't hesitate to ask.
Sunday September
27
We will be at the Missouri Literary Festival all
next weekend running a booth selling books and spreading the word
about how great our store is. Because of this, we will be
closed on Sunday. We will, however, still have our
regular store hours on Friday and Saturday.
The following weekend October 9-11 will be our 3rd Annual Fall Sale with big
savings, lots of very inexpensive books and prizes.
Monday September
7
The Missouri Literary
Festival is less than a month away. Tickets go on sale
tomorrow. We have new copies from some of the festival biggest
authors (Brad Gooch's Flannery, Daniel Woodrell's
Winter's Bone, and numerous works from Billy Collins)
available for 20% off the cover price.
Sunday August
16
Just in this week--our new author puppet
magnets. We have Twain, Fitzgerald, Jane Austen, James Joyce,
Hemingway, Sherlock Holmes, Edgar Allan Poe, and
Nietzsche. Hemingway is perfect for holding grocery
lists. Only 5.50 each.
We also have a pair or larger sized Salvador
Dali dolls for 14.00 each complete with cape and paint brush.

Also, for students going back to school
next week, before wasting all of your student loan money at the
school bookstore, don't forget to give us a call or stop in to check
your (non-textbook) book lists for your literature, religion,
sociology and history classes. We have a number of books that
professors will be assigning and we can check our database and
quickly check to see if we have a title in stock.
Sunday August
9
Starting this week, in addition to our regular,
awesome stock of used books, Book Castle is going to begin selling
some new books as well. The vast majority of our stock will
continue to be used books, of course, but this will allow us to
stock some popular titles that we cannot manage to keep in stock, as
well as sell newly released titles.
New books will be 20% off of the publisher's
retail price without having to pay for a membership card or print
out coupons. Trade credit cannot be applied to new
books.
Thursday July
23
In addition to being open Monday through
Saturday from 9:30 to 6:00, we will now be open on Sundays from 1:00
to 5:00 pm. And we will be buying and trading on
Sundays.
Monday July

We recently got in a collection of vintage
children's books including hundreds on Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Tom
Swift, Three Investigators and many others. Based on the
covers, the Hardy Boys can't seem to catch a break.
Here they are trying to take a relaxing day at an amusement
park:

Here they are trying to check out the hot new rapper Randy:

They can't even enter the "inner sanctum of a worldwide terrorist
network" without encountering trouble:

We've decided to hop on board the Twitter bandwagon and start
tweeting about stuff. I have no idea what we will have to say
that you will want to know, but it will definitely be more valuable
information than you are getting from following Ashton Kutcher or
Spencer Pratt's tweets (Well, maybe not Spencers: "damn two
pool parties in two days! the Prince of Malibu is the King of Pool
parties!"). Matt is in charge of the content,
so credit or blame goes to him, and any first person declarations
about pool party attendance from him too.
Anyway, follow us at www.twitter.com/bookcastle.
Friday June
19
This summer's been so busy that the blog updates have been
neglected, but we assure you that we have been getting in all kinds
of terrific books that you will want.
Friday May 8
Despite the rainy weather, our 3rd anniversary sale
is starting today; however, our tent remains on its box, but we do
still have many, many sale books that would have been in the tent
taking up a bunch of space in our reading area, which will be
re-filled throughout the weekend.
Saturday May
2
Thanks to everyone who came out for our first
book signing last week. Don't forget next Saturday we will be
having our giant (hopefully) tent sale. If it rains, we will
still be having our sale just sans tent, so rain or shine, next
weekend we will have hundreds and hundreds of books on sale.
Monday April
27
We recently returned from a couple of book
buying trips at the end of last week and brought back around one
thousand new books, many of which are especially great. We
picked up a decent amount of graphic novels, literary and postmodern
fiction, science fiction, and literary criticism.
Also, we will be having a 15% storewide sale,
tomorrow during Dr. Mark Elliot's book signing (excluding Dr.
Elliot's book).
Saturday April
18
We just got back from a book buying trip from
Kansas, so we have hundreds and hundreds of excellent new titles in
stock, especially in science fiction, literature, history and
postmodern fiction. My personal favorite book that we got in
is How to Survive Anywhere: A Guide for
Urban, Suburban, Rural, And Wilderness
Environments. If the world is going the way that
Glenn Beck* tells me it is, this book will be essential for the
coming world collapse. It teaches everything from how to make
a solar oven from an Office Depot box to how to make an authentic
igloo. How to make an igloo! We've only got one copy so
rush in and get it or risk freezing to death during the next ice age
because your igloo is just a snow cave waiting to collapse on
you.
*We also just got in a copy of Beck's novel
The Christmas Sweater.

We're
currently in the process of redesigning our website. During
this process, there is a chance that some aspects of the site may
not work properly. Specifically, it could be the small
problem of a wonderful picture of James Franco sleeping through
class not showing up, or the bigger problem that if you click a
certain link, you will be sent to some strange shadow Book Castle
website from 2005. If you find yourself having travelled down
this rabbit hole, click on home page and you will return to the new
site. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy this picture of James
Franco sleeping through class (that will hopefully show up):
